I’ve been making Cinnamon Ornaments since I was a kid with my mother. They hold sentimental value for me. I now make them with the youngins in my family. With two simple ingredients, these can be a holiday tradition in your family too. I get it straight from the dollar store, Cinnamon & Applesauce. That’s it!
First, mix 1 Cup cinnamon with 3/4 Cup applesauce. If they are too wet to roll out, add more cinnamon. If they are too dry and crumbly, add more applesauce. Its rather easy and very fun to do with little ones. I like to wear gloves and mix it with my hands to get the right texture. The cinnamon stains my skin if I don’t wear gloves.
Then roll the dough out, I like to roll it out on parchment paper.
Cut out any shapes you want. Use a straw and poke a hole in the tops of the shape, this is where the string will go through to hang them. If you have small pieces around the edges, smooth them out carefully with you finger because they will harden with them if you don’t. Or you can carefully sand the edges to make it smooth.
Bake at 200° F. for 90 minutes.
Let the ornaments cool. You can paint and decorate them however you like. I painted mine with silver acyclic paint. And let’s not forget to mention how amazing this makes your house smell! Its definitely Christmas time in my home. I have a very real obsession with Cinnamon.
I also love to put these on my gifts to share. They look adorable and smell so cozy. They keep for years but the smell will lose potency as time goes on. I typically keep mine for a couple years before I replace them. Tip: Store them with your Christmas decorations so everything smells like cinnamon when your pulling it out every year. This is my favorite thing to use these for.
They are so easy and fun to make, I hope you try it. Again, I get the ingredients from the dollar store, no reason to buy fancy cinnamon or applesauce for this. If you think of any other great ways to use them, Id love to hear about it! Comment below!
